A MAGIC TRICK!
HOW TO AVOID BUYING MY EBOOKS.
You can have a library of thousands of free ebooks – that is, computer files containing the text of books and stories. And you can read them with any size text that you want.
There is an incredible storehouse of these ebooks on the Web.....
Wait a minute! How can I afford to tell you this?
Because it will usually be easier for you to buy Dracula from me than to race through Transylvania-on-the-Internet and double-click the Count's evil heart before sundown.
In other words, sending me a few bucks is simpler than the process I'm about to show you.
But if you should want to read an ebook that I don't publish – like Aristotle's Metaphysics or a U.S. Government report on how to outwit the IRS – the fallowing information will be invaluable.
The storehouse of free ebooks on the Web is huge and bulging.
For example,
try Black Mask
or The Freebooks Page
or Free Books
or Mastertexts
or The Literature Network
Also look at Richard Seltzer's site
Book Collections on CD and DVD.
You have to buy most of his material for a modest price, but each CD is a library in itself.
And if that isn't enough, the Federal Government publishes more information online than you could read – all in the public domain and mostly free.
Try The Federal Citizen Information Center, especially the list of book topics at the left margin. These books and articles are available online, some free, some for a dollar or so.
For example,
HERE
I just found an article "How to Keep Your Heart Healthy", which I'll convert to large print. Along with some similar government articles it will make a useful large print ebook.
However – you can get this article yourself.
But how can you read these files in large print?
HERE IS THE MAGIC ANSWER:
The secret is to use Notepad (or Textpad or SimpleText on the Mac, or a similar text editor).
"But why Notepad?" you ask. Why not Word or Word Perfect or Framemaker – one of the Big Boys?
Because you can't make the trick work with them – at least I can't.
No, the magic works like a "quarterback sneak" in football. Generally the quarterback (like Notepad) is the smallest man on the team, standing in the midst of giants (like Word, Word Perfect, etc.) But sometimes he is the player who can plunge quickly through the line for a couple of yards and score the Big Touchdown.
Here's how you run that play.
(1) Open Notepad.
It works best if you maximize the screen.
Also, for this practice trial you may want to type a sample line of text.
(2) Set the font to a large bold value,
for example, Tahoma bold 24.
(3) TURN WORD WRAP ON.
==> WORD WRAP IS THE MAGIC! <==
Now you're ready to make your plunge.
(4) Find any free ebook on the Web.
(5) Highlight the text of the book.
For this practice trial, you may want to highlight just a portion of the text.
(6) Copy the highlighted text.
Using Windows, for example, press Ctrl-C. Or else click Edit on the menu bar and then click Copy on the drop-down menu.
(7) Paste the copied text into Notepad.
With your cursor at the top of a blank Notepad screen, press Ctrl-V. Or else click Edit on the menu bar and then click Paste on the drop-down menu.
And THERE IT IS!
• There's the text of your ebook.
• The letters are big and bold.
• And the lines break at the right-hand margin.
That is, instead of
A line of text that goes on and on.
You get
A line of text
that goes on
and on.
So enjoy!!!
But if that's a bit much for you to try, keep checking
eBay for majorjo's "LARGE PRINT EBOOK" offerings.
